LOTTERIES SCAM AND FRAUD

The lottery scheme deals with persons randomly contacting email addresses advising them they have been selected as the winner of an International lottery. The Internet Crime Complaint Center has identified numerous lottery names being used in this scheme.

This scam is being operated widely around with different lottery agency names. The victim will be contact via email or telephone call informing he/she has won a lottery which carries a large sum payment.

An initial fee ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 is often requested to initiate the process and additional fee requests follow after the process has begun. These emails may also list a local point of contact and address while also indicating the point of contact at a foreign address.

After the victim have paid the initiation fees, the scammer will become no where to be located. Please do not easily fall into this type of scam.

In some cases, the scammer will allow the victim to pay the fees only after receiving the cheque for winning money. They will instruct the victim to send money via Western Union or MoneyGram after receiving such a cheque. If a cheque arrives - beware that it could be a fake cheque. It can take more than a month for a foreign cheque to clear.

How could you win - you never bought a ticket!
Be warned, they promise millions but you could lose everything.
