Job/Project Title : DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Summary of Job description:
The Database Administrator's role is to design, install, monitor, maintain and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Main database support will be with MySQL although oracle would also be helpful.

WORK CONDITIONS:

• On-call availability
• Sitting for extended periods of time.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools and to handle other computer components.
• Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.

Specific Skill required:

• Colllege diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or (2+) yrs equivalent work experience.
• Certifications.
• Strong understanding of database structures, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers.
• Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
• Project management experience.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards and products as required.
• Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
• Highly self-motivated and directed.
• Keen attention to details.\
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
